Die Brücke

The colorful works of German Expressionism are an important focal point of the Frieder Burda Collection. Therefore, following the exhibition of paintings by the Blauer Reiter movement in 2009, a show in Baden-Baden is now being dedicated to the second influential artists’ group in German Expressionism, “Die Brücke” (The Bridge). Members of this group included Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Fritz Bleyl, Erich Heckel, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Max Pechstein, Emil Nolde and Otto Mueller.

The majority of the works on show in this major special exhibition come from the Brücke Museum Berlin, which has a high-caliber and extremely extensive collection of works by this movement. They will be complemented important loans from international collections and will also include works from the Frieder Burda Collection. The show presents paintings by the prominent artists’ group form its foundation in 1905 to 1914, one year after the group officially broke up.

The exhibition is being curated by the Brücke specialist Magdalena M. Moeller, the long-serving director of the Brücke Museum Berlin.
