From June 23 to November 4, 2012, the Museum Frieder Burda in Baden-Baden is presenting an exhibition of Fernand Léger (1881 Argentan–1955 Gif-sur-Yvette) and Henri Laurens (1885 Paris–1954 Paris), whose works had a major influence on art in the first half of the 20th century. The comparison of these two eminent artists enables the visitor to rediscover their respective creative work in two very different but no doubt complementary areas - painting and sculpture.

Concurrent with the large-scale summer exhibition Léger–Laurens. Tête-à-Tête, the Museum Frieder Burda is mounting a studio show of new works by contemporary artist Jean-Michel Othoniel from June 23 to November 4, 2012.
Othoniel’s striking strings of beads and installations made of Murano glass gracefully blend into public space; they seem to float weightlessly in trees and exude an aura teeming with delicate poetry. The artist’s fairy-tale-like glass sculptures have been attracting international attention since the late 1990s, and he is currently one of France’s most sought-after artists.

The extensive Copley retrospective presents more than eighty works by the American artist. A major share of the works on display stems from his estate, and many of them are being shown publicly for the first time. The comprehensive body of Copley’s work in the Frieder Burda Collection will also be shown for the first time in its entirety in the exhibition.
