This bilingual (German / English) publication presents different aspects of Richard Meier’s new building, the Museum Frieder Burda in Baden-Baden: as a solitary white structure on its prominent site in Lichtentaler Allee, in a partnership with the Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden, and in the tradition of historical buildings along the river Oos—in combination with Weinbrenner’s classical Kurhaus, Heinrich Hübsch’s Trinkhalle, and Hermann Billing’s Kunsthalle, completed in 1908. In his essay, Wolfgang Pehnt examines the relationship between the museum and contemporary architecture in recent history. A reportage documents the chronology of the construction progress.
Installation views from various exhibitions demonstrate the versatility of the building. Richard Meier’s biography, a list of his buildings, and a bibliography complete the volume.
